Belonging to a group with shared interests and characteristics is fundamental to human fulfilment. But whilst it is capable of bringing about a sense of comfort and acceptance, it can also lead to behaviour that people would not carry out on an individual basis and allow them to bypass their moral compasses. This chapter details the pros and cons of group affiliation and the dangers of failing to find belonging. It proposes hi-tech solutions in the form of microbots and brain manipulation.
